ACADEMY DATES:  October 7, 2017 through March 10, 2018

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  This course is designed to comply with NFPA 1001, Standard for Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications. This program includes instruction in firefighting skills, equipment, personnel, and administrative policies essential to the duties required for the profession. The curriculum is structured to develop knowledge and skills for the new fire department recruit. This course will have both written and manipulative skills evaluations. Each student will receive a skill check off packet that outlines the skills and proficiency standards.

PREREQUSITES

  • Fire or law enforcement agency sponsor with proof of insurance coverage*
  • CPR & First Aid certification from an accredited agency
  • Minimum Tier 2 Fitness classification or documentation of “fit for duty” status with your agency.

CLASS DATES AND TIMES:

Classes will be held every Saturday at the Bagdad Community Campus (700 Palo Verde Rd, Bagdad, AZ 86321) unless a change is noted in the schedule. Class times are from 08:00 hrs. to 20:00 hrs. or until finished with the day’s lesson plan.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

One set of NFPA approved full firefighting protective clothing: helmet, nomex hood, turnout coat, bunker pants, boots, gloves, and SCBA.

CERTIFICATION:

After successful completion of the Fire Fighter I & 2 and Hazmat FRO programs, students are eligible to test for Arizona Center for Fire Service Excellence (AzCFSE) and IFSAC certification.

ACADEMY COST:

Cash, checks, or money orders made out to Williamson Valley Fire District in the amount of $850.00 are required prior to the first day of the academy. This price includes textbooks, shirts, PT shorts, and most other class related expenses.   Free of all charges to FMBI employees and Bagdad residents.

News Release from Game and Fish

The Arizona Game and Fish Department will continue a successful program to help the state’s struggling pronghorn population.  The department will collaborate in an effort to lethally remove coyotes from April 1st through May 31st, to improve low fawn survival documented in the pronghorn herd in Unit 18B.
